Apprenticeship Programs

Trade unions have programs that are a joint labor-management effort to train skilled craftsmen for today’s construction industry. Apprentices receive on-the-job training with pay and professional classroom and shop instruction.

Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin Apprenticeship Program
The ABC of Wisconsin Apprenticeship Advisory Committee operates construction apprenticeship training programs, which are recognized by the state Department of Workforce Development’s Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards.

Apprenticeships are offered in 12 different trades and range from three to five-year programs. Apprentices are required to attend school as part of their training to get the book knowledge for what they’re doing on the job. Classes are typically held at a technical college and include both classroom and hands-on training. Apprentices are paid their regular hourly wage while attending class.
