Welcome to MacArthur Elementary

Greetings MacArthur Families!

How did it get to be February? We are fast approaching spring! As we go forward in our learning adventures, I would be remiss not to mention our upcoming Education Summit, which will be held on March 4, 2017 at the Florian Park Conference and Event Center from 9 - 3:30. During this community discussion, we will begin to define the notion of Powerful Learning, which we believe to be the engine for student growth and development.

The conversation we will hold is a natural outgrowth of our community gathering in March of 2015, which helped us define our work as a school district, through the following statement:

“The Germantown School District will be in the business of cultivating the whole child. We will identify students’ passions and meaningfully co-create opportunities for students to pursue these passions. From these experiences, they will develop their strengths in order for them to reach their fullest potential and become productive members in an ever-changing world.

If you would like to participate in the Germantown School District Educational Summit 3.0, click on http://tinyurl.com/hsglgar to register. Register by February 17 to ensure your spot at the table. If you have any questions, please call Brenda O’Brien, Director of Teaching and Learning, at 262-253-3906, or Rick Grothaus, Director of Educational Systems at 262-253-3918.

Hope to see you there!

Steven Williams, MacArthur Principal

School Counselor Corner

During February, I will be meeting with each fifth grader and his/her parents, to focus on: progress, plans for the future, and the transition to middle school.  These conferences are held for all 5th, 8th, and 10th graders.

Our Game Leaders continue to lead our younger students in organized games on the playground twice a week.  Dedicated 4th and 5th graders give up their noon recesses to  help out, and they have done a great job.  There will be training again this summer for students entering 4th and 5th grade who would like to learn to be Game Leaders, and there will be more information about it and other summer school offerings later this spring. Game Leader training will take place the week of June 12.

The MacLeaders have begun planning for Bingo Night, which will be on  March 10. We hope that many of our students and their grandparents will be able to attend.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child, please call me at (262) 253-3468.
