As Part of the Manufacturing/Plastics Technology class at Kennedy Middle School, 7th and 8th grade students were offered an opportunity to research, develop and submit an essay about the “Wonders of Plastics.” Students worked with instructor Jeff Thielke during IDR/SAS for 6 weeks. Both a digital and hard copy of their papers were entered into the annual Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) educational essay contest for all Middle and High Schools in Wisconsin. Only the top two essays in each division would place and receive $250.00 and $125.00 respectively, for their achievements. This year, both the 1st and 2nd place students in the Elementary Division were from Kennedy Middle School. Eight grader Lindsey Hessler placed 1st and Katie Pumpuch placed 2nd. These students were honored at the Annual Milwaukee SPE Education and Career Night at WCTC on Tuesday, April 18th.
