WisCareers is a career and academic planning tool which is available to all GHS students for free.  This program helps students make decisions regarding career choices and career planning. WisCareers includes assessments, job search resources, a resume-writer, an e-portfolio, and a budget planner. There is a wealth of information relating to careers and occupations, and colleges/ technical schools/training programs. Students can access the website from any location with internet capabilities.   If your student needs an account or has forgotten his/her log in information, have them stop in the School Counseling Office. 

Career Clusters

The 16 Career Clusters provide a context for learning the skills specific to a career, and provide a structure for organizing curriculum offerings and focusing coursework with a common theme such as an interest.

 Career Clusters:

  • provide a framework for continuing high-quality programs of college and career preparation;
  • provide a framework for seamless education from high school through post-secondary school;
  • provide more career and educational options for students;
  • provide a framework for organizing and reorganizing the delivery of career and technical education and needed 21st century skills;
  • provide understanding of knowledge and skill transfer as well as verification of qualification.

GHS Career Development and Course Planning Guide

Each year the School Counseling Office updates and publishes this handy guidebook.  It is most notably thought of as the “course selection guide,” but it contains much more information than just simple course listings and course sequences.  Below you will see a listing of pages that we feel is often overlooked by many students.  These pages will help families answer some of the basic questions that often arise when thinking about education and careers.
