Graduation Requirements


In order to receive a diploma from Germantown High School, a student must satisfy the following minimum requirements:

  1. Successfully complete 22* credits. One credit is earned in a subject when the class meets daily and is passed for an entire year. One-half credit is earned in a subject when the class meets daily and is passed for one semester.  *Graduation requirements will increase to 23 credits beginning with incoming freshmen for the 2007-08 school year.
     
  2. The normal class load for a full-time student is 6 classes per day, per semester. Seniors may be eligible for a five credit load.
     
  3. Courses listed below are required of all students

English 4 credits
Science 2 credits (3 credits for incoming freshmen in 2007-08)
Mathematics 2 credits (3 credits for incoming freshmen in 2007-08)
Physical Education 1-1/2 credits
Social Studies 3 credits (includes 1 credit American History)
Health credit (1 semester between grades 7-12)

  1. Credits earned at other high schools may be accepted for those students transferring to Germantown High School. Graduation requirements may be adjusted by the principal to allow for differences between schools.
     
  2. All students will be required to successfully complete the prescribed course of study, 13 required courses and 9 elective courses, (or 15 required and 8 elective courses for incoming freshmen in 2007-08), as outlined above to be eligible to receive a diploma and participate in the spring commencement exercises.
     
  3. For students who are short credits, a maximum of 2 credits from programs outside the school district may be accepted for make-up purposes only. These programs such as Correspondence Courses, must be approved by administration. More information is available through the Guidance Department.
     
  4. All graduation requirements must be completed prior to graduation to be permitted to participate in the ceremony.
